The $5000.00 rule is designed for small farms who produce less than $5000.00 worth of organic products a year. In this designation a producer MUST follow all of the National Organic Program standards and regulations that larger producers must follow. They do not have yearly inspections and do not have to complete the paperwork but they still must follow the record keeping practices and be prepared for an inspection. They may use the word organic but may not use the organic seal.
